Story

With a $15,000 grant from Innovations, the Project X Theatre Productions Society produced X Fest 2006, a three-week outdoor Shakespeare festival bringing marketable summer entertainment to Kamloops. The Society was able to enrich the creative development of local emerging artists by bringing together five actors and 10 emerging artists, full-time for six weeks. Close to 1,500 people attended the 24 shows as part of X Fest. The event also offered summer employment to a variety of production staff and designers – a way of sustaining local talent. The festival increased community awareness of Project X Theatre Productions and its new, soon-to-be annual festival. The event drew audiences from as far as Fort St. John and California. With continued growth, the festival is entering its fourth year in 2009 and is expected to continue having a positive impact on Kamloop’s tourism industry by making the city a point of destination.

Innovations invests in arts, cultural and heritage organizations wishing to create new opportunities for community members to participate in arts and cultural activities. The program is supported by the Province of British Columbia.
