Story
In 2007, with $10,000 in Explorations funding, the Prince George School District offered two arts, sport and recreation camps for 36 children, aged 6-12. Carney Hill Elementary hosted the camps in which students from three schools participated, along with Carney Hill Neighbourhood Centre and Porter Street Community House. There are few summer programs for children and youth in the Carney Hill-area because of financial, transportation and social limitations.
Students participated in drama, soccer, hockey, judo and swimming. Arts activities included painting, making piñatas and clay work. Campers also went on field trips to a local art gallery and the library. The camps ended with an art show for families.
