Story

Spirit of BC committees gathered together to explore the benefits of working collectively as a region to build community pride, excellence and innovation. 2010 Legacies Now partnered with Spirit of BC committees in Abbotsford, Prince George, Parksville and Kelowna to invite their neighbouring counterparts for regional roundtable discussions.

"In Prince George, the Northern BC regional roundtable gave Spirit of BC committee chairs the opportunity to meet face-to-face, learn about what each community is doing to capitalize on the 2010 Winter Games and explore potential future partnership opportunities. We know the north must develop its own way to engage in any broad-based initiative and the roundtable was the ideal forum to begin these discussions," said Mayor Colin Kinsley, chair of the Prince George Spirit of BC Committee.

The Prince George roundtable hosted Economic Development Minister Colin Hansen, the Minister responsible for the Olympics. Other roundtables hosted experts that included representatives from VANOC, the 2010 Commerce Centre, Royal Bank of Canada and the BC2008 Secretariat from the Ministry of Tourism, Sport and the Arts. The speakers led discussions on strategic planning for capitalizing on opportunities arising from the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
