Story

The 2007 Canadian Colleges' Athletic Association Men's National Volleyball Championship received $10,000 from HostingBC. There were 110 athletes, aged 18-25, who came from five provinces to compete in front of 6,000 spectators. The event was supported by 45 volunteers.

School children and local youth volleyball clubs were given special admission to the event to experience high level competition. Direct economic benefit was significant with 400 hotel room nights booked for participants as well as spending by fans and visitors. Volunteers are now trained to a national level and may serve in future competitions. The event showcased the best volleyball ever seen in Nanaimo and organizers expect increased interest in the sport.

Hosting BC provides BC communities with funding to host national and international sport events. The program is supported by the Province of British Columbia.
