Story

With an Explorations grant of $5,000, Muheim Elementary School was able to offer a two-week, full-day summer arts camp to 25 children, aged six to 12 in the summer of 2005. The daily schedule comprised three portions: drawing and observation exercises with a resident artist; workshop with a guest artist; and movement, including dance and games. The latter portion of the day was spent on collective and individual projects. The camp's goal was to help participants define their personal identity and to build a sense of belonging in the community.

Explorations provided students in kindergarten to Grade 7 with opportunities to explore arts, sport and recreation in summer camp settings. The program, which ran from 2005-2008, served students who were otherwise unable to attend summer camps due to location, local resources or financial limitations. Explorations was supported by the Province of British Columbia.
