Story
In 2007, Explorations funding of $4,500 helped the Stikine School District to host an arts camp for ten children, hosted at Denetia School and serving the communities of Lower Post and Watson Lake, Yukon. Elders and parents also participated in the camp – bringing together young and old in the area.
The focus of the camp was to teach traditional Kaska art to the children and enable them to use video cameras to document arts specialities, stories and wisdom of local Elders. Participants also gathered medicinal plants and learned about traditional medicines. Every camper received donated books as part of the camp’s Great Book Giveaway.
