Kyuquot Elementary Secondary School Hosts Explorations Summer Camps

Kyuquot Elementary Secondary School received a $2,500 Explorations grant to offer two, half-day arts, sport and recreation camps for 38 children, from kindergarten to Grade six, in the summer of 2005. Two themed weeks, Wacky Water Week and Ecstatic Einsteins, offered up a variety of sport activities, crafts, science experiments, and work with a local artist. While the community has a swimming facility and ice arena, these facilities are closed during the summer. Therefore, the camps filled a much needed void.

Explorations provided students in kindergarten to Grade 7 with opportunities to explore arts, sport and recreation in summer camp settings. The program, which ran from 2005-2008, served students who were otherwise unable to attend summer camps due to location, local resources or financial limitations. Explorations was supported by the Province of British Columbia.
