Story

The 2008 Para NorAm and Downhill and Super G Alpine Skiing event received $10,000 from Hosting BC. Kimberley's Para Alpine training run is a dedicated, world-class facility that hosted 32 athletes, aged 15-35, who came from Great Britain, Japan, New Zealand, Australia and three Canadian provinces. There were 1,500 spectators at the event which was supported by 175 volunteers.

The elite event offered inspiration for both young able athletes and those with a disability. Direct economic benefit included increased revenues for hospitality and sport tourism industries. Officials and volunteers upgraded their skills to international standards and may serve in other major events such as the 2010 Paralympic Games. The event also provided international exposure to the Rockies that organizers expect will result in additional tourism.

Hosting BC provides BC communities with funding to host national and international sport events. The program is supported by the Province of British Columbia.
