Kelowna Measures Up in Accessibility

Story

Kelowna received $25,000 from Measuring Up. Funds were used to create an online survey and hold community meetings. These yielded two main priorities: creating easier access to information and improving the public transportation system for persons with disabilities. Suggested projects include a Kelowna information network for disabilities (KIND) to link people with disabilities to community resources; an online Accessibility Guide; and a network of accessible vehicles and volunteer drivers.

Measuring Up helps communities assess and improve how accessible and inclusive they are for people with disabilities, seniors and others with similar needs. The program includes a fund, established by the Province of British Columbia, which offers grants to communities to complete accessibility-related projects.
