Story

The 2007 National Cyclocross Championships was given $5,000 from Hosting BC. The event attracted 136 athletes, aged 17-50, from eight provinces. There were three hundred spectators at Riverside Park and the event was supported by 35 volunteers.

Organizers developed volunteer and racer management software and added a timing system to the race kit, contributing to plans for a local training venue.  Officials and volunteers now have national level training. Economic benefit from the event included participant spending on accommodation, meals and other local amenities. Also, there can be additional sport events in the area now that the park is developed as a cyclocross venue.

Hosting BC provides BC communities with funding to host national and international sport events. The program is supported by the Province of British Columbia.
