Story
The 2006 Pacific World Cup received $20,000 from Hosting BC. The Vancouver Sun Harry Jerome International Track Classic featured World Cup competition between Canada and China. It drew 120 athletes, aged 18-35, from China and nine Canadian provinces. They competed in front of 2,000 spectators.
Economic impact is estimated at $1 million and includes travel and accommodation spending for athletes, coaches, officials and guests as well as spending by meet organizers to buy local supplies and services. Officials and 200 volunteers were trained to international standards, qualifying them to serve at future events. International media coverage provided significant marketing exposure for the host site.
