Story

In 2007, with Explorations funding of $5,000, the Bulkley Valley School District offered an arts, sport and recreation camp for 36 students aged 6-12. Four schools participated in the camp which was hosted by Walnut Elementary. Students in the area have few opportunities for arts instruction because of financial limitations and shortage of specialized instructors; the Explorations camp offered a new experience for the students. Students received music instruction and played guitar in the mornings, and learned soccer skills in the afternoons. The camp ended with a mini-tournament.

Explorations provided students in kindergarten to Grade 7 with opportunities to explore arts, sport and recreation in summer camp settings. The program, which ran from 2005-2008, served students who were otherwise unable to attend summer camps due to location, local resources or financial limitations. Explorations was supported by the Province of British Columbia.
