Story
With an Explorations grant, Ashcroft Elementary School offered a music, visual arts and gymnastics camp to approximately 20 to 25 children, aged five to 12 years, in July 2005. The two-week, full-day camp focused on elements and principles of design in a multitude of mediums to foster the students' development of self-expression and reflection through art, music and drumming. A gymnastics component built participants' strength, flexibility, coordination and balance to enable the students to explore concepts of force, space and their own imagination. The camp filled a need within the community for artistic and physical activities as the only other formal activities offered during the summer months were swimming lessons.
