Story

Created in 2002, the Aboriginal Youth Sport Legacy Fund supported physical activity, sport and recreation for BC's Aboriginal youth. The $3-million fund provided grants to high-performance athletes, scholarships for post-secondary students, and grants to community and sport organizations to increase sport and recreation opportunities for youth.

As of 2010, the fund provided funding to 13 students, 72 athletes, and  180 community and sport organizations, including  the First Nations Snowboard Team. The fund also contributed $350,000 to  the Vancouver 2010 Indigenous Youth Gathering.

Administered by 2010 Legacies Now, the fund was established by the Province of British Columbia, Vancouver 2010 Bid Corporation and the Squamish and Lil'wat Nations.
