During National Volunteer Week (April 18-24, 2010) in Canada, VolWeb.ca is inviting the 30,000 volunteers from the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games (VANOC) to use their Games-time experience to make a difference at volunteer events in their communities.

"The passion and energy of volunteers made all the difference in helping us achieve great things," said John Furlong, CEO of VANOC. "Our volunteers showed the nation, and the world, what can happen when we come together. As a legacy of the 2010 Winter Games, I encourage everyone to register on VolWeb.ca to continue making a difference in communities across Canada."

The VANOC volunteers have been invited via e-mail to register on VolWeb.ca (www.VolWeb.ca) to find short-term volunteer opportunities in their communities that match their schedules and interests. VolWeb.ca currently has a database of more than 11,000 volunteers and 2,000 registered events, both in B.C. and across Canada. Current event listings include the World Masters Cup 2011 in Vernon, the 13th Annual European Festival in Burnaby and the Edmonton Dragon Boat Festival, among many others.

2010 Legacies Now, with support from the Province of B.C., created VolWeb.ca in 2005 as a community resource to encourage volunteerism and to increase access to volunteer opportunities.

"The Province is pleased that all of these skilled volunteers have an opportunity to continue their legacy of the 2010 Winter Games," said Hon. Mary McNeil, Minister of State for The Olympics and ActNow BC. "This is an opportunity for volunteers to bring their enthusiasm and passion to events, festivals and fundraisers in their community for years to come."

"VolWeb.ca has grown to become a great resource to the volunteer sector as it connects people looking for short-term opportunities at events," said Bruce Dewar, CEO of 2010 Legacies Now. "VolWeb.ca allows people to find volunteer postings that meet their personal interests and goals with the click of a few buttons. We are excited the VANOC volunteers will bring their passion and experience to events across the country."

VolWeb.ca was an online registration tool to connect volunteers with event organizations throughout BC. VolWeb.ca was supported by the Province of British Columbia, CTV, Volunteer BC and Volunteer Canada. Visit VolWeb.ca for more information.
