Story

The Vancouver Out on Screen Film and Video Society conducted an assessment of its current audience development initiatives in order to raise awareness and increase its audience base. From there, the society was able to develop an extensive marketing plan for the 2006 Vancouver Queer Film Festival. Key components of the plan included attracting new attendees, capturing member data, and ensuring the objectives were measurable. As a result, the 2006 festival attendance increased by 31 percent. Post-festival data, including audience surveys, were also collected and analyzed and a Discover Session helped to determine if re-branding of the organization was needed. The information formed the basis for marketing the 2007 festival. The project, which received $6,000 in Catalyst funding, has provided the society with information to develop and implement new audience development initiatives, and raise awareness of its other programs outside of the festival.

Catalyst invests in BC arts, cultural and heritage organizations wishing to enhance their artistic, administrative and organizational capacities. The program is supported by the Province of British Columbia.
