Vancouver Hosts 2007 Vancouver BG Triathlon World Cup

The 2007 Vancouver BG Triathlon World Cup received $25,000 from Hosting BC. The event involved 284 athletes, aged 16-74, from 29 countries including Brazil, Croatia, Serbia and South Africa, as well as six Canadian provinces. There were 2,500 spectators for the event, a TV audience of approximately 1 billion and a web cast audience of 10,000.

The economic and tourism benefits are estimated at $3.5 million. Human resource development includes training for volunteers that brought them to an Olympic level.

Sport equipment used at the event, such as bike racks, fencing and swim buoys, can be used by Triathlon BC.

Hosting BC provides BC communities with funding to host national and international sport events. The program is supported by the Province of British Columbia.
