Story

The 2007 Star Class North American Yacht Racing Championship received $10,000 from Hosting BC. The event drew 98 athletes, aged 20-75, from five countries: Canada, the U.S., Brazil, New Zealand and China as well as from B.C., Alberta and Ontario. There were 100 spectators and 50 volunteers supported the event.

The event constituted one of the last major events for sailors preparing for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and brought additional tourism revenue to the city. Organizers made donations to junior sailing associations in Vancouver to further develop local interest in sailing.

Hosting BC provides BC communities with funding to host national and international sport events. The program is supported by the Province of British Columbia.
