Story
The Mel Zajac Jr. International Swim Meet 2007 received $10,000 from HostingBC. The event attracted almost 500 athletes, from Canada, the US and Hong Kong, with swimmers from seven Canadian provinces competing. There were 1,000 spectators at the event, which was supported by 250 volunteers.
The event allowed young swimmers to witness top level competition and enabled top local swimmers to race at an international level without the expense of travel. Participants brought revenue to the area during the meet and many took part in tourism activities around Vancouver. The event allowed for the further training of 150 new officials and volunteers whose skills may be used at future events.
