The 2007 Canadian Interuniversity Sport Men's Soccer Championship received a $10,000 grant from Hosting BC. The event featured the top eight university men's teams in the country and drew 226 athletes, aged 18-24. There were an estimated 5,000 spectators and the event was supported by 50 volunteers.
The event provided national level experience for officials and volunteers and offered economic and tourism benefits estimated at $250,000 with almost 600 hotel room nights booked as well athletes and staff using transportation and restaurants in an otherwise slow time of year. The event also triggered a plan for construction of turf fields at UBC.
