Story

The Abbotsford School District, in partnership with the Abbotsford Summer School of the Arts and other community partners, received $5,000 in Explorations funding to offer two one-week summer camps in the summer of 2005. Programs included musical theatre and visual arts, providing youth and the community further exposure to the arts. Activities included drawing, pastels, watercolours, mixed media and more. Thirty children, aged five to 13, from throughout the school district took part. Although the camp was a pilot project, organizers believed it would be a catalyst for the future of arts programming.

Explorations provided students in kindergarten to Grade 7 with opportunities to explore arts, sport and recreation in summer camp settings. The program, which ran from 2005-2008, served students who were otherwise unable to attend summer camps due to location, local resources or financial limitations. Explorations was supported by the Province of British Columbia.
