Story

The 2006 Challenge Cup/Jubilee Trophy, Senior Men's and Women's National Club Soccer Championships received $10,000 from Hosting BC. The event featured teams from all 10 provinces and the Yukon, 432 athletes in total who competed in front of 1,000 spectators.

The event enabled upgrades to six fields at the Newton Athlete Park and serves as a catalyst for construction of new soccer facilities in Surrey. Direct economic benefits included more than 1,000 hotel room nights booked, with participants and spectators boosting sales in local restaurants and retail stores. In addition, local bus companies received revenues of almost $24,000 from the event's transportation budget. There were 40 volunteers trained who will be able to serve in other high level events.

Hosting BC provides BC communities with funding to host national and international sport events. The program is supported by the Province of British Columbia.
