Story

With funds of $5,000 from Explorations, the Sunshine Coast School District hosted an arts camp for 64 children, aged 6-12. The camps were held at Davis Bay Elementary and Gibsons Elementary. Activities included drama, dance, gymnastics, First Nations drumming and rattle making, puppetry and painting. Organizers say the camp offered opportunities to children that may not otherwise have exposure to the arts and provided seasonal employment in the area.

Explorations provided students in kindergarten to Grade 7 with opportunities to explore arts, sport and recreation in summer camp settings. The program, which ran from 2005-2008, served students who were otherwise unable to attend summer camps due to location, local resources or financial limitations. Explorations was supported by the Province of British Columbia.
