Story

More than 80 communities throughout BC celebrated Spirit of BC Week 2007 with events ranging from aerial ski competitions in Revelstoke to community art shows in Merritt. Over 350 events were organized by 63 Spirit of BC committees who worked diligently to make the week a province-wide celebration. Here are some highlights:

A MasqueParade snow and fire pageant was held in Golden where participants dressed as wild creatures of the night and danced to a blend of old-time fiddling, 1950's rock-n-roll, Métis and Bollywood music late into the night.

Nanaimo's third annual Sport Fest introduced children and youth to new sports including curling, luge, wheelchair basketball, biathlon and cross country skiing. The event also hosted a Celebrities vs. Mascots hockey tournament and free skate.

The Spirit of BC Flying Fitness Squad traveled through Campbell River hosting 15-minute physical activity breaks at schools and businesses, encouraging the community to make healthy living choices.

In Fort Nelson, the Aquatic Centre was home to a Fantastically Fishy Fun Fair, an evening of games, door prizes and snacks for all ages.

Le Carnaval in Richmond celebrated the local French culture with a fusion of art, sports and entertainment in a free outdoor event.
