With Catalyst funding of $30,000, Seismic Shift embarked on the first year of a Contemporary Dance Series at the Vancouver Playhouse in the 2008-09 season. This followed previous Catalyst funding of $4,400 to explore the feasibility of a large-scale dance series in Vancouver. The DanceHouse series addressed a specific void in the Vancouver cultural landscape – the lack of large-scale contemporary dance companies presenting their works while on tour. The series has had a positive impact on local artists by exposing them to high-calibre work, and has offered greater access to master classes, workshops, and/or discussions. The series has allowed for arts organizations to partner with DanceHouse to present works normally out of reach for any single arts organization. Vancouver audiences now have access to large-scale contemporary dance not seen in this city for more than a decade. Plans for next season are already under way.
