Story

With $10,000 in funding from Explorations, the Sea to Sky School District hosted two sport and recreation camps for 45 children, aged 6-12. The program partnered with Pemberton Community Centre and activities took place there. SportFit modules were used to measure fitness levels.

Activities included mountain biking, swimming, climbing and karate, along with drama, acting and dance. There was a final stomp drumming performance for families at the end of the camp. Organizers say the camps filled a need for affordable, quality active summer care - for many children this was their first camp experience.

Explorations provided students in kindergarten to Grade 7 with opportunities to explore arts, sport and recreation in summer camp settings. The program, which ran from 2005-2008, served students who were otherwise unable to attend summer camps due to location, local resources or financial limitations. Explorations was supported by the Province of British Columbia.
