More than 200 athletes aged 15-18 participated in the 2005 National Women's Under 18 Hockey Championships, which received funding of $10,000 from Hosting BC. Athletes came from all 10 Canadian provinces and played in front of more than 14,500 spectators. The event also included skill development camps, including a kindergarten program for boys and girls, and seminars for female athletes and parents on hockey opportunities for female players.

Some of the funding is earmarked for an arena addition geared to female hockey players such as upgraded dressing room facilities. There were 200 volunteers involved in the week-long event which had an estimated direct economic impact of $950,000 - a boon to the community during an otherwise slow time of year.

Hosting BC provides BC communities with funding to host national and international sport events. The program is supported by the Province of British Columbia.
