Story

The 2007 NorAm and Canadian U23 and Junior World Cross-Country Skiing Trials received $10,000 from HostingBC. More than 300 athletes, aged 6-77, came from the US, Australia and Scotland for the event which attracted 150 spectators and was supported by 100 volunteers. Skiers from eight Canadian provinces competed.

The trials were a training event for future Olympic athletes and a national qualifying event for international competition. Recognition of the venue's superior facilities is expected to draw future major competition; Black Jack Ski Club aims to become a training site for both cross-country and biathlon teams prior to the 2010 Winter games. Direct economic benefit included 250 hotel room nights booked and increased restaurant, retail and transportation revenues during the event. Surplus funds from the trials will be used to buy new snow grooming equipment for the facility.

Hosting BC provides BC communities with funding to host national and international sport events. The program is supported by the Province of British Columbia.
