Story

The 2007 Karate National Championships for the Black Belt level received $10,000 from Hosting BC. The event drew 400 athletes, aged 14 and over, from nine Canadian provinces and territories, who competed in front of 2,000 spectators. The event allowed local athletes to compete nationally without significant travel expense.

Direct economic benefit included increased revenue to hospitality, service and retail industries over three days of competition. Volunteers and officials upgraded their skills to national levels and may serve at future major events. Additional legacies include an electronic scoring device that can be used at all provincial championships.

Hosting BC provides BC communities with funding to host national and international sport events. The program is supported by the Province of British Columbia.
