Story

The 2007 Golden Gloves Tournament received $10,000 from Hosting BC. More than 30 athletes, aged 16-45, competed in the event before 2,500 spectators at the River Rock Casino Resort Show Theatre. Boxers from four Canadian provinces competed against athletes from the US.

The event allowed local athletes to compete at an international level without the expense of travel and local officials and volunteers were able to upgrade their training. Direct economic benefit included revenue from accommodation and meals for participants and many fans and guests from outside BC enjoyed local tourist amenities. New training equipment and competition gloves purchased for the event will stay in the local boxing community.

Hosting BC provides BC communities with funding to host national and international sport events. The program is supported by the Province of British Columbia.
