Story

Friends of the Quesnel and District Museum and Archives Society conducted a research and documentation project to recognize the contribution of Chinese history and culture in Quesnel. With $4,000 in funding from Innovations, the society did video interviews on the significance of Chinese photographer CS Wong, and developed an oral history with elder members of the Quesnel Chinese community directly descended from families dating back to the Gold Rush era of BC and the Cariboo. The resulting video, Chinese Community Quesnel: Short Stories, includes eight short stories from five individuals. Eighty members came together to celebrate Chinese New Year and view the video, now a permanent exhibit at the Quesnel and District Museum and Archives.

Innovations invests in arts, cultural and heritage organizations wishing to create new opportunities for community members to participate in arts and cultural activities. The program is supported by the Province of British Columbia.
