Story

Funding of $5,000 from Explorations allowed Quamichan Middle School in Duncan to host two one-week arts camps for 30 children aged 8-15. Arts instruction is often unavailable in the area because of transportation or economic limitations.

Activities included working with clay, First Nations mask making, lantern making, tie dying, and kite making. Students also created a comic strip, made beaded friendship bracelets and explored the painting styles of well-known artists.

Explorations provided students in kindergarten to Grade 7 with opportunities to explore arts, sport and recreation in summer camp settings. The program, which ran from 2005-2008, served students who were otherwise unable to attend summer camps due to location, local resources or financial limitations. Explorations was supported by the Province of British Columbia.
