Story

Powell River received $20,000 from Measuring Up. Funds were used to hire and train four part-time positions, including a radio host to produce Inclusion Today, a program dealing with disability issues. An accessibility evaluator was hired to update information in the Powell River Business and Access Guide and produce new diagrams for accessibility in the home and workplace. A researcher-writer was hired to produce an Accessible Tourism and Maps section for the Guide and a web designer was hired to produce an online version of the Guide.

Measuring Up helps communities assess and improve how accessible and inclusive they are for people with disabilities, seniors and others with similar needs. The program includes a fund, established by the Province of British Columbia, which offers grants to communities to complete accessibility-related projects.
