Story

One of more than 83 communities to celebrate Spirit of BC Week 2007, Port Hardy launched the week with a flag raising ceremony at the District Hall. The community also hosted an Art Display and Critique where North Island artists displayed their works and demonstrated different art mediums. Local professional artists provided critiques for younger and new artists who had been encouraged to participate.

The Kwakiutl band and youth drama club held an event that featured Aboriginal dance performances, Aboriginal art booths, gala theatre performances and story telling. The emphasis was on youth performance and Elders' storytelling. In addition, there was a family swim, games, prizes and snacks hosted by the Junior Lifeguards Club.

Spirit of BC is a province-wide program that involves 95 Spirit of BC committees, representing over 200 communities across the province. These committees support local programs and help create opportunities in sport and recreation, arts, literacy, volunteerism, business and tourism.
