Spirit of BC Week 2008 celebrations in Port Coquitlam included raising the Spirit of Port Coquitlam flag with entertainment provided by Table 23 Comedy Troupe and The Fire Dancers; an official gathering to send off Port Coquitlam athletes competing in the BC Winter Games; and the opening of a new art exhibit reflecting community viewpoints on the changing face of Port Coquitlam.

Other activities included Catch the Spirit, a celebration of reading held at the Terry Fox Library, that included a magic show and a parade to the Recreation Complex. There was also lantern-making with participants joining the community's first lantern walk; a Parent and Tot Olympics; late night skate; and creating Port Coquitlam's first Spirit Quilt. The numerous events were enjoyed by more than 3,000 people in Port Coquitlam; more than 100 communities province-wide celebrated Spirit of BC Week 2008.


Spirit of BC Week is an annual province-wide celebration of British Columbia and its unique communities. Held each February, it is a week of over 300 events and activities showcasing local programs and services that strengthen community arts, literacy, sport, recreation and volunteerism. The celebration is supported by the Province of British Columbia.
