Pitt Meadows Measures Up in Accessibility

Story

Pitt Meadows received $20,000 from Measuring Up. Half the funds will be used to develop an Outdoor Accessibility Guide to help city employees, contractors and developers in planning and constructing outdoor facilities that are universally accessible. The guide will apply to areas that include campgrounds and campsites; park buildings; and pedestrian pathways. The remaining funds are designated for the development of an accessible playground at the Pitt Meadows Elementary School.

Measuring Up helps communities assess and improve how accessible and inclusive they are for people with disabilities, seniors and others with similar needs. The program includes a fund, established by the Province of British Columbia, which offers grants to communities to complete accessibility-related projects.
