Story

The B.C. Alpine Ski Association received $10,000 from Hosting BC for the 2005 CIBC Coupe NorAm Women's Super Giant Slalom event. Apex Mountain Resort hosted 49 athletes aged 16-25 from North America, Australia, Japan and Germany, all competing before 300 spectators each day.

Funding received was used to install safety nets, especially important for future training of younger athletes. Race officials as well as 120 volunteers were trained for the event, forming a pool of talent for other international speed events and serving as a resource for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games The two-day event brought direct benefits of more than $60,000 to the local economy during an otherwise slow time of year.

Hosting BC provides BC communities with funding to host national and international sport events. The program is supported by the Province of British Columbia.
