Story
The Pender Harbour Performance Centre on the Sunshine Coast played host to the first annual Pender Harbour Chamber Music Festival in August 2005. With a $3,000-grant from Innovations, the Pender Harbour Music Society offered three sold-out events and one free concert of chamber music from world-renowned musicians. The free concert’s theme, Chamber Music does not Bite, exposed people to an art form they were formerly unfamiliar with.
Close to 300 audience members attended the four concerts, many from outside the community. The festival helped to extend the society’s reputation on the Sunshine Coast and beyond. The group had previously been known for its Jazz Festival, so its entry into the world of Chamber Music helped to make its mark in a new musical genre. The festival celebrates its fifth anniversary in 2009.
