Story

With $10,000 in funding from Explorations, the Sea to Sky School District hosted two arts, sport and recreation camps for 70 children aged 6-12. Activities took place at Pemberton Recreation Centre, Pemberton Secondary School and various outdoor locations. Many participants came from Lil'wat Nation in Mount Currie.

Activities included dance, drama, mask making, silk painting and stomp drumming as well as soccer, swimming and tennis. The camps ended with arts displays, a dance recital, a tennis demonstration and a family BBQ. Organizers say the camps reached children who would not normally be able to access such programs.

Explorations provided students in kindergarten to Grade 7 with opportunities to explore arts, sport and recreation in summer camp settings. The program, which ran from 2005-2008, served students who were otherwise unable to attend summer camps due to location, local resources or financial limitations. Explorations was supported by the Province of British Columbia.
