Story

Funding of $2,500 from Explorations allowed the Peace River North School District to host an arts, sport andrecreation camp for 24 children, aged 6-12. Sessions were held at Ecole Central Elementary School of the Arts, with swimming at the North Peace Leisure Centre. The combined camp was the only such program in the community.

Arts activities included instruction in watercolours, metal etching, and a special project where students depicted the Northern Lights. Recreation activities included SportFit testing, drama, soccer and swimming.

Explorations provided students in kindergarten to Grade 7 with opportunities to explore arts, sport and recreation in summer camp settings. The program, which ran from 2005-2008, served students who were otherwise unable to attend summer camps due to location, local resources or financial limitations. Explorations was supported by the Province of British Columbia.
