Story

Among more than 83 communities to celebrate Spirit of BC Week 2007, Parksville and Qualicum Beach hosted a variety of events. The Spirit launch event for residents of Errington, Parksville, and Qualicum Beach featured a wine and cheese reception with the Mayor of Parksville and other local dignitaries.

There were free family skates and local athletes visited elementary and middle schools to introduce students to a variety of different sports. Students were able to discover what was required to be a high-performance athlete.

In addition, the Parksville and Qualicum Beach libraries showed Canadian and sports movies. The showings were open to all, with a special focus on youth. Also at the libraries, volunteers read books and told sport- and Olympic-related stories to youth. Spirit celebrations also included an evening of comedy with a Monty Python flavour, held at the Parksville Community Centre and Conference Centre. Scenes were performed by local artists under the direction of Silicon Beach.
