Oak Bay Measures Up in Accessibility

Story

Oak Bay received $20,000 from Measuring Up. Funds were used to make various sidewalk locations more accessible for seniors and people with disabilities. In addition, plans are in place to create an accessible community garden in the northeast corner of Windsor Park. The concept was developed in consultation with neighbours and representatives from the disability community. The gardern is scheduled for a spring 2009 completion.

Measuring Up helps communities assess and improve how accessible and inclusive they are for people with disabilities, seniors and others with similar needs. The program includes a fund, established by the Province of British Columbia, which offers grants to communities to complete accessibility-related projects.
