North Vancouver Measures Up in Accessibility

Story

North Vancouver received $25,000 from Measuring Up. Funds have been used to hire a coordinator and to develop a web-based survey where people with a disability can voice concerns on topics such as transportation, recreation, housing, home support, employment and mobility. A special bookmark was created and distributed to direct people to the survey. There will be follow-up community forums for business owners, developers, people with disabilities and the public. The community is also exploring setting up a Personal Supports Centre.

Measuring Up helps communities assess and improve how accessible and inclusive they are for people with disabilities, seniors and others with similar needs. The program includes a fund, established by the Province of British Columbia, which offers grants to communities to complete accessibility-related projects.
