Story

The 2007 Canadian Colleges' Athletic Association Women's Volleyball National Championship received $10,000 from HostingBC. The event featured 120 athletes, aged 17-24, from the top eight college teams in Canada. There were 4,000 spectators and a TV audience of more than 1.2 million. In addition, a web cast audience numbered 150,000.

Direct economic benefit was estimated at $200,000 for accommodation and meals for participants awhile local suppliers, such as banquet facilities and transportation companies, also gained revenue. University coaches scouted the games and several athletes were offered positions at university level. Local girls and coaches were invited to attend the championship to introduce players to high level competition. The 60 event volunteers were trained to national level and may serve at future major competitions. In addition, student trainers and physiotherapy students gained experience by assisting staff. New equipment will be used for future collegiate or community events and for youth development sport camps in the community.
