Story

One of more than 83 communities to celebrate Spirit of BC Week 2007, New Westminster hosted numerous events, including Winterfest at Queen's Park. The event featured on-stage and roving entertainment by local performing arts and culture groups, including youth bands, cultural dancers, and community performers.

Residents and visitors participated in fitness warm-ups prior to walking the 2.2 km Millennium Trail. A Parade of Champions showcased minor sport organizations, and local recreation and cultural groups.

Other activities included a Family Skate Day and a Spirit of BC Luncheon, co-hosted with the New Westminster Chamber of Commerce and Westminster Club and featuring RBC Olympian Jacqui Cook. There was also an Ice Wine Festival held at Centennial Lodge, and a teach-the-parents-how-to-read event that provided booklets containing helpful hints on how to read together at home. The event took place at Glenbrook Elementary School.
