Lions Bay Measures Up in Accessibility

Story

Lions Bay received $15,000 from Measuring Up. Funds were used to conduct a community audit and to make a variety of improvements to local beaches. These improvements included a fence along the path leading to Kelvin Grove Beach and a bench at the beach. At Lion's Bay beach, access has been improved by widening the gates and making the path down to the shelter more accessible. In addition, custom-made benches were installed at various locations around the Village on the more frequently used walk ways.

Measuring Up helps communities assess and improve how accessible and inclusive they are for people with disabilities, seniors and others with similar needs. The program includes a fund, established by the Province of British Columbia, which offers grants to communities to complete accessibility-related projects.
