Story

Langley Meadows Community School used an Explorations grant of $15,000 to offer two arts camps and two sport and recreation camps during the summer of 2005. Approximately 60 children, aged six to 13, took part in an Arts & Crafts Camp or a Tennis & Racquet Sports Camp. Art camp attendees explored pencil and charcoal drawing, paper-making, basket-weaving, and working with pastels. SportFit was included as part of the racquets program with SportFit stations used for some of the participants while others practiced racquet skills. The SportFit Challenge introduced the Olympic ideals of striving for excellence and self motivation.

Explorations provided students in kindergarten to Grade 7 with opportunities to explore arts, sport and recreation in summer camp settings. The program, which ran from 2005-2008, served students who were otherwise unable to attend summer camps due to location, local resources or financial limitations. Explorations was supported by the Province of British Columbia.
