Story
The 2008 University National Rowing Championships received $10,000 from Hosting BC. The event drew 255 athletes, aged 17-28, who came from eight provinces/territories to Bedford Channel to compete in front of 350 spectators. Fifty volunteers supported the event.
The event served as a recruitment opportunity for World Cup events and gave coaches experience at a national level. Direct economic benefit included 500 visitors coming to Fort Langley for the week of competition with 1,000 hotel room nights booked and increased revenues for hospitality industries and local suppliers. Officials and volunteers upgraded their skills to national levels to form an experienced pool of resources and equipment purchased for the Championships will be used at future events.
