Story

The 2007 Pushor Mitchell Kelowna Apple Triathlon, which received $10,000 from Hosting BC, included 934 youth, adult, junior elite and elite athletes, aged 8-75. Six countries participated, including Iraq, Japan and Australia, as well as six Canadian provinces. There were 2,000 spectators as well as a TV audience of 150,000 and a web cast audience of 75,000. More than 600 volunteers supported the event.

The sport tourism revenues from the event were estimated at $2 million, with international attention focused on BC and the Okanagan likely to result in increased tourism. The area now has more coaches, volunteers and more sport facilities to serve triathletes.

Hosting BC provides BC communities with funding to host national and international sport events. The program is supported by the Province of British Columbia.
