Story

The 2007 Canadian Open Snowboard Tour - Halfpipe NorAm event received $10,000 from Hosting BC.  The event was a major competition to identify and fast track potential Olympic athletes. It drew 68 athletes, aged 15-26, from five Canadian provinces. There were 3, 000 spectators and a TV audience of 50,000.

The estimated direct economic benefit was $36,000 for participants lodging, meals, and lift tickets with an additional $17,600 spent in prizes, media and transportation. The event was a catalyst for young snowboarders to become involved in competition and enabled recruitment and training of volunteers who may serve at the 2010 Winter Games.

Hosting BC provides BC communities with funding to host national and international sport events. The program is supported by the Province of British Columbia.
